About Us

LifeStyleSTAY welcomed our first guest to Hagegården Retreat Hotel in 2020, amidst the challenges of a global pandemic. Although the beginning was slow, given these unique circumstances, the future holds great promise as our focus on retreats and nature is increasingly relevant in today's hectic society. Our vision is to help change the world by providing a much-needed sanctuary away from the cares and busyness of life. An oasis to which you can retreat when it's time for a break, a place from which you can reemerge stronger and with new energy, ready to make a difference in your world.

LifeStyleSTAY builds on the 20-year legacy of LifeStyleTV, a television station dedicated to promoting and inspiring people to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle, one full of meaning and purpose. Established in 2005 and originally located in Skåne, LifeStyleTV moved to Hagegården, Värmland, in 2018, which enabled the expansion into hospitality with a retreat and conference center. Our lifestyle magazine, LifeStyleVIEW, launched in 2015 as a free printed publication, has gained much recognition and appreciation wherever it is distributed. The magazine is available in both Swedish and Norwegian, and now also as an English electronic edition. Behind LifeStyleSTAY, LifeStyleTV and LifeStyleVIEW, is a Swedish non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a holistic lifestyle and the well-being of body, mind, and soul.

A dedicated team stands prepared to welcome you for an extraordinary retreat, one that can transform your life, ignite inspiration and make memorable experiences. Reach out to discover how we can enhance your stay and insure it fulfills your personal needs. We eagerly await your arrival!

A Short History of Hagegården

With its rich history, the walls of Hagegården still echo the music of world-renowned musicians who, some 30 years ago, came here to find inspiration and rest. Håkan Hagegård, a famous Swedish opera singer, had an idea that would form the basis of Hagegården Music Center, which he built and opened in 1992. “My idea is to help keep artists healthy, so artists can help keep the world healthy.” That idea was so unique that The New York Times published an article featuring Hagegård’s vision. “As his career flourished, he saw all around him the hazards of his profession: commercialism, loneliness and ultimately burnout. During the mid-1980s, he was inspired by the American psychiatrist Peter Ostwald, who had spearheaded a holistic medical support program for performing artists. ‘He said it was actually physically necessary to slow down,’ Mr. Hagegard said. ‘Your body and brain demand rest in order to produce the chemicals you need to think new thoughts. Otherwise, all you’re doing is rearranging and recycling the same old thoughts.’(1). Through the years, many concerts and musical events at Hagegården have drawn large audiences and touched millions through live music broadcasts on SVT (Sweden’s national public television).

Prior to LifeStyleSTAY taking over Hagegården, it was run for ten years as a hotel and conference center by Carl-Axel and Siv Engstad under the name Enggården. During this time, they did a great job of freshening up the interior and giving it a more modern Scandinavian look, yet tactfully keeping it in line with the original design.

LifeStyleSTAY is proud to continue building on this unique history as we develop our retreat program and experience.

Welcome to Hagegården Retreat Hotel to be refilled with new energy for an active and creative life!
